Enduring Children's Classics, and the Illustrators we love
I love this innovative series! Released on September 28 (2021), not only are the bold illustrations by Maïté Schmitt distinctly modern and appealing, but the writing is adapted for children, easily comprehensible, and there are notes on the author and work’s literary style in the introduction.
This blog is all about children’s chapter books and I generally tend to focus on unabridged versions. However, there are some recognizable and familiar classics out there with writing and content that is inappropriate for children; Dracula and Frankenstein are definitely case in point! In these cases, the only way to share the story with children is with retellings and adapted versions. That’s why I think this publishing company (Whalen Book Works out of Kennebunkport Maine!) is brilliant! The books also encourage readers to read the original when they are ready. I just think that is wonderful.
Below are two more titles being released in April next year!
