Miraphora Mina & Eduardo Lima = MINALIMA

MINALIMA

Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima started working together in 2001 to create the graphic universe we experience in the Harry Potter™ movies and in 2009 they formed their own design studio, MinaLima™.

In 2015, they began creating inventive designs for well known Children’s Classics, beginning with J.M. Barrie’s classic Peter Pan. It’s leanings towards the mythical made it a perfect fit for their innovative designs. Since then, with at least one title out per year, they have created several versions of Children’s Classics, each unified by deluxe foiled covers, and designed to feel as if the book originates from the world within the story it tells; “we wanted the Peter Pan book to feel like it was from Wendy’s Room – not just that it was about Peter Pan but that it was from Peter Pan”. (Quoted from MINALIMA blog)

Ephemera from the stories such as letters and maps, immerse participants in each imaginative world.

Personal note: I’ve collected all but two of these and each one is simply stunning. I’ve included pictures and detail for my Pinocchio and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz illustrator explores, which you can visit here (Pinocchio) and here (Oz). Also, I began reading the Harry Potter series to my son this year during the final week of summer, and chose the MINALIMA version. It was a real treat and my son and I have decided to read all the Harry Potter’s this way!

I CANNOT wait to find out which classic they plan to do next! As soon as I know, I’ll add it to this post!

  • Thank you for recommending the MinaLima Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s stone – FANTASTIC illustrations – the thing that gets me (and my son!) is that many of the plates are interactive and soooo creative – think pop up book but beautifully done. Such a fun way to experience reading the story. We liked it so much we got the “Chamber of Secrets” as well. I know you can’t rush great art but we can’t wait for the next installment. Thanks Heather!

    • I’m so glad to hear that Jared! I’m really looking forward to seeing what the next HP will look like, as well as which classic they plan to do next!
