This subtly colored and dreamily illustrated book tells the story of Ella, the daughter of an artist who went to Giverny to study with Monet, who sneaks into Monet’s garden, and develops a friendship with him. As Ella sketches, Monet talks about important moments in his life, including his struggles with critics and his own self-doubt. He also explains the idea of Impressionism in a way children will love and understand.

The Outdoor

Scientist

By Temple Grandin, with Betsy Lerner

Illustrated by Kenton Hoppas

This one has been out in hardback but now is available in paperback! I usually don’t highlight books just because they are new in paperback but this one is special and I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to bring it attention!

Autism spokesperson Temple Grandin created this book about exploring the world around us, introducing readers to geologists, astrophysicists, oceanographers, and sharing her childhood experiences with projects to give readers a deeper understanding of the world around them.

The Great

Wall

Through Time

By Various Authors at DK

Illustrated by Du Fei

About a year ago I loaned A Street Through Time from the library and it was a big hit with my son…and with me! Every turn of the page in this book showed a scene from the same location in Europe (a street in London I believe), but at a different point in time, which is actually, incredibly fascinating! Now with The Great Wall Through Time we can go on that same journey through time, but this time with Asian history.

The King of

the Copper

Mountains

By Paul Biegel

Illustrated by Sally Collins

Ok so I am really curious about this one. I love it when older books are republished with a new look because it usually means that the story is worthy of republication! Written in 1964, it seems to be about a rabbit who is tasked with keeping his king alive every night with a story until the doctor returns with a cure. The rabbit calls upon his animal friends for stories so every night a different animal tells a tale: a wolf, squirrel, duck, sheep etc. Labelled as a cult classic, I’m probably going to seem very foolish to some for not knowing about this book, but I will know by the end of April once I get my hands on it!

Sherlock

Holmes

The Hound of

the

Baskervilles

By Arthur Conan Doyle, Edited by Margaret Novak

Illustrated by Maite Schmitt

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote this classic Sherlock Holmes tale about a giant, ghostly hound that glows eerily and howls outside the Baskerville estate at night more than one hundred years ago.

Abridged and retold for a young modern audience while remaining true to Doyle’s original text, and featuring boldly colored and captivating illustrations, this is another in a new line of books that has really caught my eye!
